Master OSRS Marks of Grace and the graceful outfit: optimize rooftop courses, earn tokens faster, and turn them into stamina-boosting amylase.

So there I was, level 30 Agility, wondering why my pockets were empty and my run energy drained faster than a pint at a Friday night pub. Then I discovered Marks of Grace—those little golden tokens that spawn on rooftop courses and quietly turn into one of the most useful untradeable currencies in the game. Trust me, I wish someone had given me the lowdown back then. So here's my no-nonsense, slightly sweary guide to everything marks: how they spawn, which courses pay best, what the graceful outfit really costs, and why amylase is your new best mate.

First things first: marks only drop on rooftop agility courses. Not Gnome Stronghold, not the Wilderness, not Hallowed Sepulchre. Rooftops only, from Draynor at level 10 all the way to Ardougne at 90. As you complete obstacles, the game rolls a chance for a mark to appear at set spots. Spawns are personal—your marks are visible only to you, so a crowded world costs you nothing. Each mark sits there for ten minutes before despawning, which is plenty of time to finish your lap and grab it on the way past. Don't be that numpty who backtracks mid-course; keep your rhythm and the marks will come.

Now, here's the mechanic that catches almost everyone out: once your Agility level is 20 or more levels above a course's requirement, that course spawns marks at roughly a fifth of the normal rate. Ardougne is the only rooftop exempt. In practice, outlevelling a course quietly kills your mark income, and it's the main reason people who camp Canifis into their 70s wonder where all their marks went. Been there, done that, got the empty coin pouch.

These are the rates I'd actually plan around, assuming steady laps and reasonably clean runs. Treat them as averages, not guarantees—mark spawns are random and a sloppy hour is a slow hour.

Course Level Marks/hr (approx)
Draynor 10 5–8
Varrock 30 10–14
Canifis 40 20–25
Seers' Village 60 15–20 (until 80)
Ardougne 90 20–25 (25 with elite diary)

Two things stand out. Canifis at level 40 pays nearly as well as Ardougne at 90—absurd value for a mid-level course. That's why the standard advice is to sit at Canifis until your graceful set is bought. The second is that Ardougne with the elite diary boost is the only place where marks keep flowing at full rate forever, no matter your level. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Grace, in the Rogues' Den under the Toad and Chicken in Burthorpe, sells the full graceful set for 260 marks: hood 35, cape 40, top 55, legs 60, gloves 30, and boots 40. The full set knocks 25 kg off your weight and restores run energy 30% faster—20% from the pieces plus a 10% set bonus for wearing all six. My honest take on buy order: grab the boots and hood first for the early weight reduction, then work towards the top and legs. At Canifis rates, 260 marks is roughly 13 to 14 hours of laps, and most players finish the set somewhere in their low 50s if they started rooftops on time.

Once you own the set, Osten in Shayzien will recolour it for 15 marks per piece, or 90 for the full set. Purely cosmetic, but if you're going to live in this outfit for a thousand hours you may as well like the colour. I went for the black one—looks dead fancy.

Here's the part a surprising number of players never do the maths on. After graceful, every mark you earn can be spent at Grace's shop on amylase packs, at ten amylase crystals per mark. Amylase is the secondary ingredient for stamina potions, one crystal per dose, and it's in permanent demand. At recent prices of roughly 1,300 to 1,500 gp per crystal, a single mark converts to somewhere between 13,000 and 15,000 gp. Run that against the course table above and Ardougne laps at 20 to 25 marks per hour are paying you 250,000 to 350,000 gp per hour in amylase on top of your Agility XP. For a skill famous for paying you nothing, that's a genuinely respectable side income. Kerching!

One warning: amylase prices move around with stamina potion demand. Check the price on the day rather than assuming, and sell the crystals themselves, since the packs only exist inside the shop interface. Don't get caught holding the bag.

So what's the actual game plan? From 10 to 40, just progress through the courses as you unlock them. None are worth camping, and the marks you pick up are a bonus rather than a plan. From 40 to 60, Canifis is the answer. It's the best marks per hour you'll see until Ardougne, the laps are short and forgiving, and the XP is acceptable for the level range. This is where the graceful set gets bought. If you want the full lap-by-lap XP breakdown rather than just the marks angle, there are plenty of agility training guides out there that cover the complete 1 to 99 route—including quest XP that lets you skip the worst early courses entirely.

From 60 onwards you have a real choice. Seers' Village with the Kandarin hard diary teleport is better XP, while staying at Canifis holds better marks until the level 60 penalty kicks in and cuts the spawn rate to a fifth. My rule: if graceful is finished, follow the XP; if not, stay at Canifis until it is. At 90 the decision disappears. Ardougne is the best XP and the best marks, it never suffers the outlevelling penalty, and the elite diary pushes it to around 25 marks per hour. It's the only course designed to stay rewarding at 99, and it shows.

A few quickfire answers to common questions: How long do marks take to despawn? Ten minutes from the moment they appear. Finish your lap and collect them on the next pass. Can you trade marks? No, they're fully untradeable—but the amylase crystals you buy are tradeable, which is what makes marks worth real gp. Do you still get marks after 99 Agility? Yes, every rooftop still spawns them, but only Ardougne spawns at the full rate for a level 99 since every other course is hit by the 20-level penalty.

My final tip: don't stop laps to grab a mark the moment it spawns. The ten-minute timer means it'll always survive until your current lap brings you back past it, and keeping your lap rhythm intact is worth more marks per hour than any amount of scrambling. Set a lap counter in RuneLite, pick the right course for your level, and let the marks pile up while you watch something on the second monitor. Before you know it, you'll be swimming in graceful gear and swimming in amylase profits. Happy laps, folks!
